Good bye, classmates (.com) !
Today I am saying "good bye" to classmates.com. I've had a free account with them for several years. I could never convince myself that there was any value in paying for information about long lost friends.
I think the worst feature on their site is the dreaded guest book. Daryl, someone has signed your guest book. It could be any one of the few thousand people I've met over the course of my life. I admit I am curious, but not enough to pay to find out.
Cost is not a factor in my decision. It's the principle; my relationships are mine, and I find it absurd that someone would think they could step in and charge me to reconnect with someone.
That, plus Facebook has made classmates.com obsolete. In fact, there might be more classmates of mine on Facebook nowadays.
So the time has come to abandon the pay-for-play approach. If you agree, then join me and delete your account too.
